Dear Mr. Weatherman,

What the deal, Mr. Weatherman? It's October...Are you mad at the world, or just confused? Why is it snowing?

Of course, we all remember, clear as day, the blizzard of '78, the above image is from then. Well  actually, at the time, I wasn't "even a twinkle in the eye" as my mother would say, but I definitely remember my parents often referencing it.  Brrrrrrr
I think I only want to date people who were alive for that blizzard. Just something I've been toying with, not certain it will be a steadfast rule.

Yuck. Hopefully this little display from the gods, or whatever, will melt and it will be summer again tomorrow!

I want to do a drawing of an old mad slumping around with an unmbrella in the snow...That is how I feel today. Like an old codger bumbling around, huffing and puffing.

 THE SOLUTION:

Boil water.

Select a cozy tea, such as Sleepytime, Roastaroma, or something along those lines. Steep.

Add milk, to taste.

Add honey to taste.

Add whiskey....Feel better.

The Open Road

I'm really astonished that it's taken me this long to put this clip, one of my all-time favorites and most highly influential in my life, up.
Anyway, here it is! Enjoy!

Both clips from The Wind In the WIllows, the 1983 film version. A masterwork.

I need to get my grubby little mitts on a copy of this.

Birds Of A Fabric

Here is a Birdcage which I made for my young cousins' nursery.
The cage itself is cotton with polyester filling, no wire used to create the shape.. The birds are made of a patchwork of various fabrics, and each has a feather tail  and Swarovski crystal eyes. They are seated on a swing which is connected by a golden chain with a large Swarovski crystal charm hanging from the center.

Price upon request.

Great Word

I just learned a wonderful new word, thanks to my e-mail subscription to A.Word.A.Day:

DARKLE: To make or become dark, indistinct, or gloomy.

Kind of the opposite of sparkle, and the words rhyme!!! So great! I'm going to really try and integrate this word into my everyday vocabulary.

Heavy clouds hung low as the sun set;  the sky quickly began to darkle and the streets of the village quieted.

That's my practice sentence, I think it works, right?

Nail Color

This is a new color from Essie that I have been pretty into lately. I really recommend it as a fall go-to polish. It's called "School of Hard Rocks". C'est tres, tres chic mes amis.

Social Experiment/ Anthropological Study

We've all heard those tips/superstitions about the home, whether it's Feng Shui or just an old wives tale about certain  colors of bedding bringing  love into your life. I have decided to put them to the test. I'm not doing anything terribly drastic, but I always enjoy running social "experiements" in my own life. This paired with the fact that  Ive become increasingly obsessed by the New York Times Home and Garden Section as well as Elle Decor and of course, old fatihful, Architectural Digest means that my next experiment will be interior-design based.

The basic mission of my test is to make my apartment into somewhere I really want to be, somewhere highly organized, charming, cozy and filled with warms smells, food and drink. The question then is: once I have done this will it in fact come to possess the magical powers to propel people (and money??)  towards me and my home? Will the love of my life be drawn to me like Edmund to the Ice Queen, she with her turkish delights and propensity for evil, and me with savory snacks, scented candles and a desire to love? Will I be more successful in my career?  The great thing about this experiment is that if it doesn't work, I end up with a cozy apartment, and I already have a very happy life, so, it's without risk.

Ideally, I'd like my apartment to be somewhere  Oscar Wilde would feel relatively at home. Or at least somewhere he wouldn't be totally appalled by.

Another element of this project is going to be, expanding my cooking repertoire, constantly keeping my finger and toe nails polished, and never leaving the house looking too awful.

Basically, just trying to be a grown-up woman and stop acting like a teenage boy with paint on his jeans and dirt beneath his nails!

I realize this all probably makes it sound as if I live in squalor, dine on potato chips and don't believe in personal hygiene. That is not quite the case. In fact I don't have very much work to do on my apartment, but I feel a strong desire to really perfect it. And in regards to the nail polish, this is because a dear friend of mine, who is older and much more together recently told me that enough is enough and I simply must take better care of my hands. So I shall.

Wish me luck! Try it yourself! Stay tuned for home design projects, easy yummy recipes, good nail polish shades, and of course more of the usual.

I'm Back!

Don't worry!

I know I haven't posted in a few days, but don't panic, I'm back!

I've got some new jewelry in the pipeline which I will post soon! I've also been doing some home improvement projects which I will  share when they are completed. Simple stuff to do yourself, but man, has it improved my the quality of life in my little abode.

Listen up!

I've been listening to this great Beach Boys jam for the past few days thanks to the recommendation from my brilliant sister. I suggest you do the same.

B.R.A.I.D.S.

My hair is getting long enough to braid, at long last! I couldn't be more excited. There are so many options! Not sure which I will try first! Help me decide.

Colorful braids.

Elegant braids.

Intimidating braids.

Sexy braids.

Sweet braids.

Masculine braids.

Braids that cover your ears.

Lengthy bra.ids

Braids for school, or braids to dip into ink pots.

Heidi braids.

Braids as an activity to do together

Just plain perfect Elizabeth Taylor braids.

Braids as a hat.

Structural braids.

Braids as a tail.

Braids that stand alone.

Sometimes though, braids just need to be cut.

Well Said Sundays; A Quote to Note XVIII

Steve Jobs (1955-2011)

"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary." -Steve Jobs

Holler at me!

Please be aware that commenting is finally available! I'd love to hear from you, so go crazy everyone!

Slumber My Darling

Tonight, my mother is hosting a slumber party for my sister, Monty (the puppy) and me, at her apt! Dinner, movies, wine, puppy snuggles! Heaven!

I still feel like this.

It never stops being comforting to sleep under the same roof as one's mother, perhaps it becomes even better with age!

Keep On Keepin' On

As I mentioned, the past week or two have not exactly been the best ever, and it certainly hasn't been terribly fun trying to push on, but I am.  These are times well spent either indulging in some vino with friends or reorganizing one's space, both emotional and physical. Of course, it is also a time to find images of chic women doing their thang. After 10 days, it is time to stop being so depressing and start getting organized!

So, I'm aiming to focus less on this kind of behavior.

And really do more of this.

Pastries help.

So does having fresh laundry.

And clean floors.

And a clean self. I only regret that I cannot fit into my weeny little tub.

If all else fails, its nice to just give your breadbox a cuddle!

I haven't tried this yet, but it only makes sense to get together with friends and dress as your favorite electrical appliance.

Looking incredible helps in every situation.

Sleeping alone, that can be tricky, but try to focus on taking up as much room as possible, sleep in starfish pose.

Dine alone.

Or with a fabulous friend.
